Brianne was found in the parking lot of a commercial building. She was alone, sick and helpless when a gentleman found her after work one day. He knew she would not make it if he didn't find someone to help her. Her road to recovery is truly amazing and she hardly resembles her former self.
Adam came to us from a live market in the Houston area. He was days away from being slaughtered when an incredible group of activists were able to liberate him and his three brothers.
Lilly is an ex-battery cage hen. In 2019 an egg factory farm in Iowa went bankrupt due to Covid and thousands of hens were left to starve to death, she was one of those hens. She is reserved and cautious but loves treat time!
Dragon is one of our popular residents. He came from a cruelty/neglect situation and lost his hearing due to an untreated ear infection in both ears. He may be one of the tiniest chickens here but undoubtedly has the biggest personality. He is talkative, curious, personable, loves people, never misses treat time and enjoys spending time with his best friend, Draco.
In 2018 I received a call from a kind woman in the Houston area who found a game hen laying eggs in her garage. When I went to pick up the hen I discovered that there was a breeder in the neighborhood who was raising game fowl for fighting. Anna was likely used in their breeding program and escaped to a nearby home to get away from the horrible conditions many are forced to live in. Anna still choses interesting places to lay her eggs and her latest preferred place is inside the house!
Seaten is an Asian Gamefowl and the only surviving fighting rooster from a cockfighting bust in Houston late 2021. When the police busted the fight, Seaten was one of the roosters in the fighting ring. He was physically and emotionally abused but has healed in a remarkable way. He is now beautiful both inside and out. He is wary of strangers but loves to spend time with me one-on-one, after everyone else has gone to bed.
